What is model federation?

See Model federation — federating means connecting to your models where they already live (a spreadsheet, a database, an XML file, an ontology…) instead of exporting or transforming them into a new format first.

How do I try Openflexo?

Download a current build from the Downloads page — every link there is checked and points at a real, dated build — and run it. Packages are ready to run: a .zip on Windows, a .dmg on macOS and a .tar.gz on Linux. Openflexo 2.99 needs Java 8 and does not bundle a Java runtime; the installation guide explains how to set it up on each system.

What computer skills do I need?

To use a packaged Openflexo module (the Free Modelling Editor, the Openflexo Modeller…), none beyond installing and running desktop software: no programming is required to build a graphical model or a diagram editor. Writing FML — the language behind federation, matching and behaviours — does assume some programming background, though not necessarily Java.

Which licence is Openflexo under?

Both the GNU General Public License version 3 and the European Union Public Licence are available: you choose. See maturity, licensing and support.

Which version should I use?

Take the version the Downloads page marks as stable; snapshots are development builds. The 2.0.1 and 2.99 lines both need Java 8. See the roadmap.
